SLH Transport Celebrates 30 Years as a For-Hire Carrier

October 9, 2015

SLH Transport, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Sears Canada celebrated its 30th anniversary as a for-hire carrier on October 6th.  From its roots as an in-house transportation solution, SLH has since grown and transitioned to one of Canada’s top 10 transportation providers.

“Our approach is to keep it personal and use our strong foundation to build and grow our business,” said Paul Cooper, President, SLH Transport Inc.  “We continue to expand our service offering and provide a more integrated service package to our customers.  Celebrating our 30th year is a proud moment at SLH, and we sincerely thank the loyal customers, employees and drivers that made this milestone possible.”

Sears Canada continues to be one of SLH’s largest customers within a SLH customer base which has grown to more than 400 clients, utilizing multiple service offerings through its diversified asset operations and growing logistics group.

“Sears Canada would like to congratulate SLH on 30 years of success in the Canadian transportation industry,” said Pat Craddock, Vice-President Supply Chain and Logistics, Sears Canada Inc.  “Like Sears Canada, SLH places great emphasis and focus on its customers and community.  SLH plays a key role in our ability to provide quality goods to our customers across Canada.”

SLH has been recognized as an employer of choice in the trucking industry, winning the Top Fleet Employer’s award from Trucking Human Resources Canada for two years running, a testament to its driver retention, recruitment and recognition programs.  In a very competitive market, SLH driver tenure is one of the best in the industry.

SLH was a pilot carrier in the introduction and expansion of the Long Combination Vehicle (LCV) programs in Canada which has driven efficiencies and cost containment.  Acceptance into the program is difficult and is based on a number of factors including safety rating, training programs and ongoing reviews.  SLH is also a SmartWay Transport Partner, an Environmental Protection Agency program, and Natural Resources Canada, dedicated to reducing fuel consumption and its carbon footprint.

“We are proud to be providing innovative freight management solutions to North America’s leading shippers for the last 30 years,” said Cooper.  “I would like to thank our customers across North America for entrusting us as one of their key supply chain partners.  Our business is driven by a loyal high-performing culture that has tremendous passion for this great industry. SLH drivers and owner operators are leaders in their profession with a relentless focus on safety and customer service.  We instill in all of our team members the significant role the driver plays in the success of our business. As an industry we must continue our focus on driver retention and attracting newcomers into this exciting industry.”

SLH Transport Inc. is an industry leading diversified transportation and logistics company providing the North American Supply Chain with innovative freight management solutions through a high performance culture that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, safety and exceptional service.  The Company has a network of 13 terminals strategically located across Canada supported by 700 power units, 3000 trailers and a growing logistics division of long standing partner carriers.
