Recently unveiled Kenworth T680 Next Generation trucks come with some upgraded power under the hood.
Fuel economy in the Paccar MX-13 is up 2.4%, and rises 3.4% in the MX-11, depending on the application and spec’, the company says.
The Paccar MX-11 can’ be spec’d with ratings of up to 445 hp and 1,700 lb-ft of torque at 900 rpm. The power offerings rise to 510 hp and 1,850 lb-ft at 1,000 rpm in the Paccar MX-13.
Related upgrades to the engines include combustion improvements using what’s described as multi-pulse fuel injection, a smaller but more efficient turbocharge, and enhanced piston that promises lower friction losses. The aftertreatment system has also been upgraded to further reduce particulate matter and NOx without sacrificing power or fuel economy, Paccar says.
Changes in the name of reliability include a fully encapsulated engine harness, and a reduction in the connections between the engine and vehicle. Several structural enhancements add to the strength.
From a maintenance perspective, primary and secondary fuel filters are now mounted on the engine instead of the chassis, and a 12-volt fuel heater is a standard offering to improve cold weather performance.
Oil and fuel filter service intervals reach 120,000 km, while major components have a warranty that lasts five years or 800,000 km.
