Cortec additive tackles biodiesel challenges

December 3, 2020

Cortec is tackling a series of challenges with biodiesel through the release of its new M-707 additive.

Additives are needed to prevent corrosion, but also to stabilize fuel, handle water, and avoid the buildup of sludge, the company says, adding that protection is especially critical to avoid stagnation and corrosion during long-term storage.

M-707 can be applied as is or used to develop fuel enhancers.

In addition to protecting metal surfaces that directly contact the treated fuel, it also supports the metal in the vapor space above the fuel line, the company adds, noting this is important for biofuels that absorb extra water that can condense overhead and corrode the tank ceiling.

The additive is not corrosive to copper or aluminum, and doesn’t contain trace metals, chlorides, chromates, nitrites or phosphates, Cortec says.
