Capacity Showcases Pluggable Hybrid Electric Terminal Tractor (PHETT) in Toronto with Glasvan Great Dane Sales Inc.

Capacity of Texas has introduced the Pluggable Hybrid Electric Terminal Tractor (PHETT) into Canada. The PHETT is the latest evolution of innovative hybrid technology, combining the advantages of scientific and mechanical expertise to reduce emissions and overall carbon footprints.

Glasvan Great Dane Sales Inc., the exclusive Capacity dealer in Ontario, Canada officially launched the truck by organizing a well-attended open house on August 25th, 2009 at its headquarters in Mississauga. "We are pleased to provide this one of a kind technology in the Terminal Truck Industry for our many customers," stated George Cobham, CEO, Glasvan Great Dane Sales Inc.

"As a leader in the terminal tractor industry, we are pleased to offer our Pluggable Hybrid Electric Terminal Tractor. Capacity of Texas is dedicated to environmental stewardship by offering products with the latest technology in green propulsion. This product will change perceptions, reduce operational expense and emissions at all Ports, Intermodal Yards and Warehousing/Distribution Centers not only in North America, but throughout the world," stated Phillip Ford, President of Capacity of Texas.

The PHETT is a charge sustaining series hybrid that utilizes a constant and efficient rate generator to supply power, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. In third party testing conducted at several locations, fuel consumption was reduced an average of 50%. The most significant reductions were in emissions, a decrease of NOx by 77% and PM by 82% compared to a baseline 2002 diesel engine study conducted by the Port of Long Beach. In comparison to a 2009 (tier 3) engine, a reduction in NOx by 39% and PM by 53% was achieved with this technology.

With the lowest operational cost per hour, the PHETT also incorporates an AC traction motor and on-board grid-charging system. Integration and introduction of this technology into the flagship Capacity Trailer Jockey line included review and redesign of front & rear axles, steering system, frame structure, suspension and isolation of components as well as adjustments for cab interior space requirements; all resulting in optimum performance and design for terminal tractor applications.

Capacity of Texas, Inc., based in Longview, Texas, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Collins Industries, Inc., and is the largest American owned manufacturer of terminal tractors in North America, offering a full product line of terminal trucks used throughout the world. Capacity distributes products through a national and international authorized representative network.

Glasvan Great Dane Sales Inc, a subsidiary of Glasvan Trailers Inc. was established in 1981, and has grown to five southern Ontario parts, service and sales locations of Capacity Shunt Tractors, Great Dane Trailers, Landoll Trailers, and Chaparral all aluminum flatbeds.
